2023 Summary of Legislation - Effective January 1, 2024

AB 1560 (Flora, Chapter 206, Statutes of 2023)

1. Crematories: change in ownership.

This Bill permits the new owner of a crematory to submit an application to the Bureau to assign the crematory license, so long as the application is submitted at least 30 days before the change of ownership and the new owner pays the appropriate application fee of $750. Once the crematory sale is final, the new owner is required to submit to the Bureau: (1) a copy of the final sales agreement within 10 days of the sale; and (2) within 60 days of the sale, proof that any required permit to operate the crematory has been issued by a local air pollution control district. The Bill also requires the Bureau to approve or disapprove the new owner’s application. The application evaluation may be finalized by the Bureau prior to the date of the final sale.

SB 887 (Committee on Business, Professions and Economic Development, Chapter 510, Statutes of 2023)

1. Professions and vocations.

As it relates to the Bureau this Bill has amended Business and Professions Code (BPC) section 7685.3. BPC section 7685.3 adds language to include hydrolysis in the required contact information statement on the first page of any contract for goods and services offered by a licensee.
